What led me to Education

It was about two years ago or so that I decided that I wanted to become a teacher. When I first thought I wanted to be a teacher I thought I would want to become a Physical Education teacher because that would be easier and a more "fun" path. Until I came to SNHU, and saw what I thought would be the perfect fit for me.

Throughout school I always loved math class as opposed to any other class (besides being able to run around in gym class). I had always been one of the better kids to understand what was going in my math classes. A lot of the time other kids in my class would ask me if I could help them try and understand what we were learning and a lot of the time. The other night my sister texted me to ask for help on her math homework. It wasn't something I would have ever thought I would have considered, becoming a teacher. But without knowing it, I guess I had a natural ability to help people understand a subject that I actually enjoyed to understand.

The other part of teaching is actually working with kids that are that age where they are in elementary, middle, or high school. I know that I would not want to work with little kids like below the 3rd grade. I play well with my little cousin and other kids that are that young but I wouldn't be able to deal with a classroom of kids that age. I also know how high school kids are able to talk back to teachers and how they sometimes don't show respect for them, and I wouldn't want to deal with that on an every day basis. This is where my previous coaching experience affected my decision. From when I was a sophomore in high school to senior year I coached a rec basketball team filled with kids that were at the middle school level. I immediately was able to connect with this age group, so well that the first year I coached one of those teams we went undefeated and won the championship for the league. I was able to make the same connection with kids in a golf camp that I have been a counselor at for the last four or five years. I can't say exactly what it is but I've always been able to just connect and click with this age group.

These are the two main factors that led me to make my decision to want to become a teacher. I never realized it when I was in school, but I was always good at relaying the information to other kids in my class (math class at least). Also, I seem to be working well with kids at the middle school level. So far, I guess that's my plan
